Dequindre Cut Graffiti

People on the Dequindre Cut

I am not sure if I am suppose to be calling this stuff graffiti. I think maybe I am suppose to be calling it art. But regardless, there is some truly spectacular work on the Dequindre Cut. Electing to embrace the graffiti artists instead of trying to fight them has resulted in a really stuff. There are more pictures of the Dequindre Cut Graffiti in our photo gallery if you are interested

More Belle Isle Soccer League Coverage

The Detroit News did a cool piece about the Detroit Soccer League on Belle Isle and how it is bringing together young adults from the different neighborhoods within the city. Here is a video from the write up:

I swear this league gets move coverage then some of the local sports team. But I guess that makes sense. I would certainly rather ride my bike to one of these games then sit in the Palace parking lot for 2 hours after watching the Pistons give up 120 points to a bad team. Plus the beer is cheaper.

Atwater Block Brewery Pub

Atwater Brew Pub

Atwater Brew Pub

Atwater Block Brewery, effective July 8th, has closed their brew pub on Joseph Campau. My original thought was that this was worst possible thing that could have happened to me. Under further investigation this might work out rather well.  The Brew Pub, and my Mug Club Membership, have moved into the actual brewery.  I always loved the atmosphere inside the old Brew Pub but there is something to be said about drinking beer inside an actual brewery.  The new entrance is off of Wight St. through the giant garage type door, which they leave open in good weather.  The Pub no longer takes credit cards but that is no big deal if you know in advance.

Atwater moving announcement

Atwater moving announcement

You may have noticed in the announcement that Atwater intends to move into Foxtown. I really have no idea where but one person metioned the old Johnny Rocket's space on Woodward.  I have no clue if this is true but it would be pretty cool if it was.

On a side note, I also hear a rumor that Prive Duet......I think it is how it is spelled......intends to move into the vacated Atwater space.  I think the idea is that Prive Duet will be some type of upscale Italian restrauant.

LOL Movie in Detroit

LOL the movie, a remake of a French dramedy, begins filming next week at Garden Court Condos.  The movie stars Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore. I don't believe the stars have been on set as of yet but there is definitely a lot of activity preceeding their arrival.  I will update with pictures and info as the week goes on.

Detroit Soccer on Belle Isle

Throw in - Villages Team

Throw in - Villages Team

The Detroit Futbol league is an awesome event that brings together people from eleven different historical districts across Detroit.  That fact can not be denied.  What I think is somewhat overlooked is what a social event the games have become.  Nearly every team travels with a little contingent of healthy drinkers that hang out on the Isle for a couple hours and drink beers or in the case of the Villages team martinis.  Personally, I stop at the Liquor store on Jefferson just south of Mt. Elliot and scoop up a forty.......they have an incredible selection.....and head over to watch my girlfriend's team.   In my opinion, the coolest part of the league is that it brings together of all of these pockets of people to drink in the sun once a week.  Additionally, a bar is chosen every week where all the teams and spectators convene to drink and rehash the games.  I must admit I am not much of a soccer fan but I find it amazing how beer can make watching anything fun.

Gold Cup Hydroplane Race Crash 2010

Here's a video of the actual crash from the 2010 Gold Cup Hydroplane races on the Detroit River. Apparently the boat, U-37 Miss Peters & May, lost it's rudder as it was making the turn in front of the Rooster Tail. Needless to say at that point steering was slightly more difficult.

The driver turned out to be fine having only a broken foot which is kind of miracle as you can see in this video below of the  boat being hoisted out of the water at Keans Marina.

You can see more pics of the damage in our picture gallery.

The Windsor Riverside Brewery shot from Detroit River next to Peche Island. We always wondered what the hell this building was and why there are giant piles of gravel in front. The link above has good info.
